Father's Son

As as kid I can remember digging through an old photo album and holding a 8x10 print of my father running the Chicago marathon in 1979 at the age of 21 and distinctively wanting to replicate the exact photo. So when I qualified for the race earlier this Spring, I didn't hesitate to sign up.

The conditions made it extremely daunting in preparing for this marathon. Over the four months training in Atlantic Beach, FL, I battled humidity percentages equaling the temperature-day in, day out and I didn't have a gym membership so all 600+ miles I ran were on the street and beaches. But it made good practice on the morning of October 12 when the race started in 45 degree weather.

Finished 6,678 / 45,000.  | 3:39

A man’s desire for a son is usually nothing but the wish to duplicate himself in order that such a remarkable pattern may not be lost to the world. ~Helen Rowland
